Timings & expectations
Session infoThis club runs after school until 5:30pm. Staying for the full session is strongly recommended so you can get into flow with your projects and activities. If you have any issues or need to leave early, please talk to Jacob.
School rules still apply
Respect & safetyHack Club is fun and relaxed, but we still follow school rules:
- No swearing online or in projects.
- No inappropriate content in anything you build.
- Don’t break your computers—treat all hardware and equipment with care.
Your identity & accounts
SecurityHack Club is secure, but when you’re working on projects here, always use your school email address. This keeps things safe, consistent, and easy to manage across tools like Hack Club and GitHub.
Food & allergies
ImportantThere will be food at Hack Club sessions. If you have any food allergies or dietary requirements, please make sure Jacob knows so snacks and prizes can be planned safely for everyone.
Meet Jacob · Your Hack Club leader
Year 10My name is Jacob Navaratne and I am your Hack Club leader at Ashford Senior School. I’ll submit your projects, lead you through events, and plan all the food! If you have any issues, questions, or ideas, come and talk to me in person or email NavaratneJ@ashpupil.co.uk.
I’ve been part of Hack Club since February and have already received loads of awesome things from Hack Club: a monitor, wireless mics, lots of stickers, cookies, cookie cutters, keyrings, PCBs and hardware, a YubiKey (security key for accounts), a soldering iron, and more.
I’m currently the only Hack Club leader at this school, but in the future I may choose a Co‑Leader to help run the club and activities.
Hacker mindset
IdentityHackers are people who build things with code—the creators, makers, and coders of tomorrow. We experiment, learn by doing, and ship cool projects.
What we don’t do: hack into bank accounts, the government, or anything illegal. We’re creators, not criminals.
Our mission at Ashford Senior School
Mission- Build an all‑inclusive family of hackers at Ashford Senior School.
- Bring hacking to people who wouldn’t normally take a Computer Science class—everyone is welcome.
- Give prizes for amazing work, even if you already take Computer Science.
- Build your confidence and skills so you can live a life of creation after Hack Club.

Three ways to hack
PathwaysHack Club offers many “You Ship, We Ship” (YSWS) projects, but we’ll start by focusing on one pathway together. Over time, you can explore all three.
Coding and designing digitally—websites, apps, tools, and more. We’ll use GitHub and ship real projects.
Mainly gets food prizes and digital rewards.
Computer‑aided design projects. We’ll start with BakeBuild, then FuseRing, then either Enclosure or Construct.
Great if you like 3D design, making, and physical builds.
Two main tracks: Sprig and Downscale. Sprig gets you a small game console; Downscale gets you various cool things.
Perfect if you love games and want to build your own.
See you at next week’s session
What’s nextToday is all about introductions, setting up accounts, and understanding what Hack Club is. Next week, we’ll dive into our first pathway and start building something together—whether that’s a website, a CAD design, or a game.
Come with curiosity, ideas, and questions. You don’t need to know how to code yet. You just need to be ready to create.
